How We Work
A structured approach to cross-border tax advice, designed to ensure your position is property assessed, clearly defined and appropriately implemented.
Cross-border tax matters are highly dependent on facts, timing and structure.
Providing advice without a detailed understanding of your position can lead to incorrect or incomplete outcomes. For this reason, all engagements follow a structured procerss.
1. Initial Advisory Assessment
Complete our Initial Advisory Assessment to provide us with an overview of your circumstances and objectives. This allows us to understand your matter, undertake our client acceptance and compliance procedures, and determine the most appropriate scope of work before any advisory engagement commences.
2. Proposal
Once we've reviewed your assessment, we'll provide an Engagement Proposal outlining the recommended scope of work, fixed fees and next steps. Depending on your circumstances, this may include a Tax Position Diagnostic or another tailored advisory engagement. Where appropriate, we'll also advise whether an initial consultation is recommended.
3. Tax Position Diagnostic
Following acceptance of your Engagement Proposal, we'll undertake a detailed review of your circumstances to develop a preliminary understanding of your Australian tax position.
This provides a structured foundation for identifying key tax issues, assessing potential risks and opportunities, and recommending the most appropriate advisory pathway.
What this includes:
-
Review of relevant facts and supporting documentation
-
Identification of key Australian tax issues
-
Preliminary assessment of your tax position
-
Recommendations for the next-stage of advice or implementation (where required).
4. Advice or Strategy
Following the Diagnostic, we will recommend the appropriate level of engagement.
This will typically involve either targeted advice on a specific issue or a comprehensive cross-border tax strategy.
Targeted Advice
Used where a discrete issue can be addressed in isolation.
Examples include residency position, foreign income treatment, or Australian tax obligations.
Comprehensive Strategy
Used where multiple factors interact, including residency, capital gains tax, structuring and multi-year planning.
This provides a coordinated and defensible approach across all relevant areas.
5. Implementation and Ongoing Support
Where required, we assist with implementation and ongoing compliance to ensure the tax position operates as intended.
This may include structuring, tax filings and ongoing advisory support.
How Advice is Delivered
Advice is provided following a detailed and review of your position and is typically delivered in written form, supported by discussion where appropriate.
This ensures clarity, consistency and a documented basis for your tax position.
Meetings and Communication
Meetings are included where appropriate to the engagement and are used to support the delivery of advice.
They are not used as a substitute for structured analysis.
Additional meetings may be included or scoped separately depending on the nature of the engagement.
Initial Scope Calls
We offer a short introductory call to understand your situation at a high level and determine how we can assist.
No technical advice or conclusions are provided on these calls.
Email Communication
Email is used for administrative communication and coordination.
Technical advice is not provided via email outside of a defined engagement scope.
Fees
We operate on a fixed-fee basis, determined by the scope and complexity of the engagement.
Following the Diagnostic, we will provide a clear recommendation and fee proposal for the next stage.
Why this approach
This structured process ensures that advice is based on a complete understanding of your position and supported by a clear technical framework.
It also allows for efficient engagement, clarity of scope, and consistency in outcomes across complex cross-border matters.
